Re: You Will Not Check This Email Later, That’s...

...Procrastination.

I'm Hoyin Cheung, and I'm super excited to roll out the red carpet for you on this, the very first edition of our newsletter journey together.

Think of this as the first flight of what I hope will become your go-to rocket ship for insights on productivity, organizational skills, and leadership wisdom that's out of this world.

Now, you might be thinking, "Another newsletter? What makes this one special?" Great question! This isn't just about sharing tips and tricks (though, don't worry, we've got plenty of those). It's about creating a community where we get into what it takes to move the needle in our personal and professional lives.

We're here to explore, challenge, and inspire each other to reach new heights.

So, in this first edition, we're unmasking the procrastinator within each of us. We'll look at the different ways procrastination can manifest.

Here's to the first of many adventures!

Ever feel like you’re your own worst enemy when it comes to getting stuff done? You’re not alone in this, trust me.

Turns out, that sneaky habit of putting things off, yeah, procrastination - it’s more about what’s going on in our heads than just being lazy.

So, let’s take a little journey inside the mind of a procrastinator, shall we?

First up, did you know there are different flavours of procrastination? Dr. Linda Sapadin spells it out with six unique styles. Check these out and see if any sound familiar:

The Perfectionist: Ah, the endless quest for perfection. Ever find yourself stuck because if it's not perfect, why bother? That’s the perfectionist in you, afraid to start or finish because, well, it just has to be flawless.

The Dreamer: Ideas? You’ve got a million of them. But when it comes to the nitty-gritty of making them happen… crickets. Dreamers love the big, beautiful vision but often miss the ladder to climb there.

The Worrier: What if this goes wrong? What if that goes wrong? If you find yourself frozen by what-ifs, welcome to Team Worrier, where the fear of failure keeps your feet glued to the ground.

The Defier: Deadlines? You don’t like being told what to do and when to do it, so you push back, maybe even subconsciously. It's your way of keeping control in a world full of demands.

The Crisis Maker: Love the thrill of a last-minute sprint? If you’re nodding, you might be a Crisis Maker, thriving on the adrenaline but maybe, just maybe, making life harder than it needs to be.

The Over-Doer: Can’t say no? If your plate is so full you can’t see the bottom, you’re probably an Over-Doer, drowning in commitments because turning them down just isn’t in your vocabulary

Sound like someone you know? Maybe even a bit like you?

Identifying your procrastination style is like having a map of your brain—it’s the first step to navigating out of Procrastination City.

So, how do we combat these tendencies?

For the Perfectionist, how about embracing “good enough”? Set realistic goals and remember, that progress, not perfection, is the key.

If you’re a Dreamer, try breaking those dreams down into bite-sized steps. What’s one small thing you can do today to inch closer to that dream?

Worriers, let’s flip the script on those negative thoughts. What’s the best that could happen? And hey, a little planning goes a long way.

Defiers, it’s about finding your own reasons to get things done, on your terms. Set your own deadlines and then, here’s the kicker, actually reward yourself for meeting them.

Crisis Makers, how about we dial down the drama? Plan your tasks with a bit more cushion time. Your stress levels (and maybe your friends and family) will thank you.

And for the Over-Doers, it’s time to practice saying that two-letter word: No. Prioritize what’s really important and give yourself permission to let the rest go.

Remember, changing habits takes time. But knowing what’s holding you back? That’s the first step to turning the procrastination beast into a productivity buddy.

Before you go, a quick thought: imagine turning your procrastination hurdles into productivity highways with a little help. That's where our VAs shine. We tackle those lingering tasks, freeing you up to focus on what you do best. It's like adding extra hours to your day, every day.
